World of Insects
Calendar cover.
Cover of Entomological Society of America's 2022 calendar, World of Insects.

Dr. Donald Owen is a local retired forest entomologist who has provided the Shasta Chapter CNPS with fascinating presentations over the years regarding forest health in terms of insect populations. Not only is Dr. Owen an excellent entomologist, but he is also an exceptional nature photographer.

Each year, the Entomological Society of America (ESA) publishes their World of Insects Calendar, which showcases the stunning beauty of insects and related arthropods through striking, world-class photography. This year’s calendar contains a photo of a native insect and plant taken in Shasta County by Don.

The calendar with its incredible insect photos makes a great gift, and buyers will be pleased to know that all proceeds from sales of the World of Insects Calendar directly benefit ESA’s Chrysalis Fund, which fosters the future of entomology through grants for programs that teach kids about insect science. To learn more, please visit ESA’s website at https://www.entsoc.org/publications/world-insects-calendar.
