Our traditional New Year’s Day Field Trip on the Westside Trail to the Top of the World is still going strong! This year we had 19 people show up on this joint SEA-CNPS field trip, including many regulars as well as many newcomers.

One person returning for this field trip was Zachary Jackson with their mother, Carol. Zach is a recent graduate of UC Santa Cruz who took an interest in environmental studies because of their experiences on Shasta Chapter CNPS field trips since they were about 13 years old. They are lucky to have a mother who was willing to introduce them to the natural world. They are now working in the field for a consulting firm that does environmental studies required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
