The perfect planting weather prompted Sarah Jarrett (Shasta CNPS Matson Mowder Howe Celebration Garden Representative), Sue Mandel (North Valley Art League Representative), and yours truly to plant 23 natives generously donated by the Shasta Chapter of CNPS.

The plantings occurred over a couple days—one a few days pre and one a few days post Thanksgiving—one to generate an appetite and one to burn off some of the big-meal calories!  Despite the warm days, we knew it was fall because of the blanket of newly fallen western sycamore (Platanus racemosa) leaves.

We had a great time and are now looking forward our next planting party, when we will plant eight more plants, a second generous donation.  If you would like to participate in the fun times taking care of the Matson Mowder Howe Celebration Garden, feel free to contact any of us.  We will plant the last group of plants probably around Christmas. -Doug Mandel
