Seaside daisy. M. Widdowson.
Seaside daisy, Erigeron glaucus ‘Wayne Roderick.’ A lovely plant for the front of the border or along a path, this compact plant will flower all summer given regular water, and is very attractive to bees and butterflies. Photo by Margaret Widdowson, August 2020.

We’re excited to announce that we will be holding a 2020 Online Fall Plant Sale from Sunday, October 18, through Thursday, October 29!  We have 163 species to choose from!

Showy bush snapdragpn. M. Widdowson.
Showy island snapdragon, Gambelia (or Galvezia) speciosa—this shrub turned out to be easy to grow from cuttings and makes a great container plant, where it will spill over and produce bright red tubular flowers that are irresistible to hummingbirds. Photo by Margaret Widdowson, August 2020.

We’ve had to make a number of changes due to the pandemic.  The online store will open for a members-only sale on Sunday, October 18, through Monday, October 19.  This will allow our members to have first pick of the plants species they want.  Starting Tuesday, October 20, the store will be open to everyone until the end of the sale on Thursday, October 29.

All payments will be through the online store, and customers will pick up their purchases at a pre-arranged time and place; pick-up location to be announced.  To keep us all safe, social distancing, masking, etc., will be in place.

While waiting for the online store to open, you might want to check out this list of plants that we will have available: Online 2020 Native Plant Sale Plant List.  It includes links for most species to Calscape.org, which provides a wealth of information on our native plants.

A few new additions to our usual offerings that could be of particular interest include: horsemint (Agastache urticifolia), hummingbird mint (Monardella macrantha), Bolander’s phacelia (Phacelia bolanderi), black-flowered figwort (Scrophularia atrata), Purple Haze California aster (Symphyotrichum chilense ‘Purple Haze’), fairyduster (Calliandra eriophylla), Centennial ceanothus (Ceanothus ‘Centennial’), climbing keckiella (Keckiella cordifolia), fragrant pitcher sage (Lepechinia fragrans), golden currant (Ribes aureum var. aureum), Pacific Blue sage (Salvia brandegeei ‘Pacific Blue’), Whirly Blue Cleveland sage (Salvia clevelandii ‘Whirly Blue’), blue elderberry (Sambucus nigra ssp. caerulea), jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis), and banana yucca (Yucca schidigera).
