On Monday, January 8, eleven skilled gardeners (Carole Crowe, Kay Gibson, Chris Gray, Linda Hernandez, David Ledger, Doug Mandel, Susan Mandel, Kris Shanley, John Springer, Janet Stortz, and Jeannie Tullis) methodically and thoughtfully pruned the matilija poppy (Romneya coulteri) and mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana) at the Matson Mowder Howe Celebration Garden (MMHCG) in Caldwell Park, Redding. We also fought back Himalayan blackberry (Rubus armeniacus), common morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea), and privet (Ligustrum sp.). Our goal is to work alongside Nature; hopefully the more thoughtful approach to gardening will produce more flowers and an improved habitat for all creatures.
This was a spur-of-the-moment session, coinciding with a break in the weather. When these happen, there is no chance to advertise. Instead, we send emails to the people who are on our MMHCG contact list. If you are interested in being added to this list, please contact me at skagit3@gmail.com ~Doug Mandel
