Shasta Chapter CNPS is delighted to kick start the new year with a presentation by Shasta Land Trust‘s Director of Conservation, Tessa Blevins, on the Trust’s conservation impact in 2023—an incredible year for land conservation in the north state!
We will learn about the 22,000+ acres conserved in the last year—the greatest number of acres protected in a single year in the history of the Land Trust. These conserved lands include two working ranches, an organic wild rice farm, the entirety of Lake Britton and Fall River Lake, Pit River Falls, Fall River Falls, and substantial river and creek mileage along the Pit River, Fall River, and Hat Creek regions. Tessa will discuss the benefits of land conservation, as well as plans for the organization serving our community in the years to come.
In partnership with landowners, stewardship staff, and stakeholders, Tessa has guided projects from inception to completion and beyond at Shasta Land Trust since 2018. She oversees project selection, implementation, and finalization to meet big-picture conservation goals. Tessa holds a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, with an emphasis in Biodiversity, from Humboldt State University; her skill set includes technical writing, grant writing, mapping using GIS (geographical information systems), and plant identification.
Come join us for what will certainly be a very interesting presentation! We will meet on Thursday, January 18, at 6:30 PM, at the Shasta College Health Science & University Programs building in downtown Redding, 1400 Market Street, Community Room 8220 (clock tower building at the north end of the Market Street Promenade; enter at the main entrance, on the northeast corner of the building). Like all Shasta Chapter meetings, this meeting is open to the public.
In addition, the Chapter will treat our speaker to dinner at Final Draft Brewing Company, Redding, before the meeting, at 5 PM. The membership is invited to join us there for a casual, no-host meal, and to meet and talk with Tessa pre meeting. Please contact shastacnps@gmail.com should you have questions. See you there!
