Photo Playshop, October 22, 2023

The photo playshop group. H. Spector.
Yes, the rain did get a little heavy for awhile, but only after we had been at the photo playshop for a couple hours already. It actually did rain on our Sunday photo playshop, despite the fact that the forecast for a mere 0.05 inches on Saturday had moved to Sunday and could have kept slipping at least to the afternoon, as it so often does.  But no, the rain-instigating power of an outdoor event is not to be ignored! Our need to understand our cell phones’ digital cameras overcame reservations about the weather; the majority of all registrants showed up and stayed throughout the misty morning. Photographers are a tough breed!

The mild storm got it together to form bigger drops near noon, but by then our intrepid instructor, Harvey Spector, had already multiplied, many times over, our understanding of digital photography.   And he did all that despite participants’ wide range of prior knowledge.  Kudos to our instructor!

Harvey impressed us with his ability to deal with the diverse equipment that the attendees brought, as well as their respective levels of understanding and interest. Going by the enthusiasm of the group, the hunger to know more about digital photography is a thing in our Chapter.  We would do well to offer another work- or playshop in a different season and perhaps even on a drier day out in native habitat.  Watch for it! ~MaryAnn McCrary

Eastern redbud, sages, and deer grass. H. Spector.
Eastern redbud, Cercis canadensis, in saturated color because of the overcast.  In the understory, the Arboretum has planted horticultural varieties in the genus Salvia, and deer grass, Muhlenbergia rigens. And perhaps a few weeds are present. Photo taken by Harvey Spector on October 22, 2023.
