It is the Shasta Chapter CNPS’ great honor to announce this year’s highly deserving scholarship recipient: Linnea Baun.
Out of this year’s extremely qualified field of applicants, Linnea was independently scored as the top contender by each of the four members on our scholarship committee. Linnea recently graduated from Yreka High School, with “A’s” in every single class she took. Linnea will be heading to UC Berkeley this fall to major in Genetics and Plant Biology, and plans to pursue graduate studies in Plant Biology after completing her Bachelor’s degree.
Not only has Linnea distinguished herself academically, but she participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities. This past summer, Linnea worked with Klamath National Forest botanists to collect, identify, and mount herbarium specimens and to eradicate invasive weeds such as Dyer’s woad. Other activities include serving as co-captain of the YHS Science Bowl team, tooting on the trombone with the high school band and Siskiyou Community Orchestra, and participating on cross-country, soccer, and ice hockey teams.

Shasta Chapter CNPS is pleased to be able to help Linnea achieve her botanical aspirations by awarding her our $2,000 Plant Biology Scholarship. Our heartiest congratulations to Linnea! Shasta Chapter CNPS wishes her the best of luck in her studies and career. ~Don Burk, Scholarship Chair
