Cedar Basin, Mt. Shasta area
Saturday, July 16, 2022

  • At five miles round trip, this moderate to difficult hike with an 800-foot elevation climb will take us to two small glacial lakes 14 miles west of Mount Shasta. Serving as a US Forest Service research area, Cedar Basin has five species listed on the CNPS rare and endangered species list. There are many Port Orford cedars, Klamath manzanitas (discovered in 1982), roundleaf sundews, and California pitcherplants along this trail that is featured in Michael Kauffmann’s Conifer Country. Bring water, lunch, insect repellent, sunscreen, adequate hiking footwear, and gas money for carpooling. No dogs, please.
