We at Shasta Chapter CNPS are gearing up for our Spring 2022 Native Plant Sale, with in-person and online options!

The public sale will take place from 8 am to 5 pm on Friday, April 8, and from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, April 9, at the Shasta College Farm greenhouses. The Shasta College Horticultural Department also will be having their sale at that time.

A members-only set-up and pre-sale will be held at the Shasta College Farm area on Thursday, April 7. The set-up will be from 2 to 4 pm, and the pre-sale from 4 to 5:30 pm.  Please bring your CNPS membership card or the latest copy of your Flora magazine, which should have your member info printed on it, for entry.  Memberships will be available for purchase for $50. Planting native plants helps local insects, birds, and other wildlife. Landscapes with native plants require less irrigation once established, and help us appreciate and rediscover our sense of place. These plants evolved in California, and many of the plants that we grow are genetically from our local area. So many have been lost to development; planting natives helps recreate native plant oases.

If you miss the in-person sale, our online store will open to the public at 9 am on Wednesday, April 13, through 5 pm on Friday, April 29.  Our plants need to be in the ground in your yard!  Order pickup will be at the Shasta College Farm, on a date and time that you will select after you shop.  The store will be found at https://cnps-shasta.square.site when it opens on April 13—it will not be open before that date, and the link will give you an error if you try it earlier.  A plant list should be available soon. (Members should be on the alert for an email from us with important updates about the online sale, including discounts and a members-only online pre-sale.)

Thank you for growing native plants! Your purchases support the CNPS mission of pursuing botanical knowledge and raising public awareness about California native plants.  Your local Shasta Chapter supports local and statewide groups that share our commitment to native plants.  We advocate locally for rare native plants and native plant habitat.  The Chapter’s Horticulture and Propagation Committee uses best nursery management practices to grow the wonderful nursery stock that we are able to offer to you at this sale.   Shasta Chapter awards scholarships and grants to budding botanical scholars and researchers to help them pursue their educations and careers.  We help local schools, businesses, and community organizations plan and plant native gardens.  Volunteers demonstrate landscape uses of native plants in the Matson-Mowder-Howe Celebration Garden, which the Chapter helps steward.

Many thanks for supporting our mission. Questions?  Please contact us at ShastaCNPSpropagation@gmail.com ~Susan Libonati-Barnes
