Upper Salt Creek
Saturday, October 12, 9 am
Lower Springs Road at Valparaiso Way

The Sierra Club will lead a field trip on the Upper Salt Creek Trail for an out-and-back, easy 3-mile hike. Walk leader David Ledger will talk about the reproductive strategies of various plant types, including conifers, ferns, bryophytes, and flowering plants. Few plants will be in bloom, but this is a good time to learn how to identify plants in the fall. This creek had extensive small-scale gold mining operations all along the trail, including both placer and hard rock mining. Rain cancels, but for drizzle or intermittent light rain, bring an umbrella. This field trip is sponsored by the Shasta Chapter of California Native Plant Society and led by Sierra Club. Spots are limited to 15 people, and it is required to sign the Sierra Club waiver here to participate. To reserve a space, email sierraclub.shasta@gmail.com. Meet in the trailhead parking lot on Valparaiso Way at Lower Springs Road.
