Climate Change and Land Management
Redding Library Community Room
Thursday, July 14, 6 PM
Former Shasta Chapter CNPS president Laura Brodhead, who is currently an ecologist with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Redding Field Office, will address the question: How should we approach land management in a changing climate? Laura is interested in science communication and adapting land management to a changing climate.
In her presentation, Laura will discuss a useful framework for thinking about how to manage natural resources in a changing climate—the RAD (Resist, Accept, Direct) framework. She will give a brief overview of the framework, discuss some local examples of how BLM is adapting to climate change, and what they are seeing on public lands. She will lead a discussion about possible future actions using the framework as a backdrop in public land management.
Following Laura’s talk, David Ledger will discuss local actions that SEA is taking, including getting the City of Redding to move forward on a new tree ordinance, as well as other projects.
This meeting will be held in the Community Room of the Redding Library, 1100 Parkview Avenue, Redding, starting at 6 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Due to increasing Covid cases in Shasta County, we may require properly fitted surgical or N95 masks (not bandanas or neck gaiters) to attend this meeting. We will also separate chairs so people won’t be close together. For more information, contact david@ecoshasta.org. ~David Ledger, SEA President
