Dear Members,
A mostly dry April brought out lots of flowers, both in the landscape and in my garden. I enjoyed some automobile outings to Millville Plains, the Parkville Cemetery, Ash Creek, and over Wildcat Road to Hwy 36, with a glance at Hog Lake. Several members have been keeping an eye on Hog Lake, which has been just glorious this spring. At this time, the Navarretia and Downingia are blooming at the margins of this big vernal pool. Visit soon, while there are still some flowers.

Our nursery has been very busy selling plants online, and propagating more. The online Spring 2021 Native Plant Sale has been extended through May 14, ending at 4 pm. Don’t miss out on the wonderful species we are offering. And a huge thank you to our Propagation Team!

My garden has been enjoying my Covid-19 seclusion. I have been home to see the native trees, shrubs, and bulbs in their glory (and to weed, of course). Butterflies and birds are abundant, as well as sharp-tailed snakes and western fence lizards. April was wonderful in the garden, with California lilac, columbine, irises, and ookow bulbs. As May begins, I am seeing bush anemone and Salvia ‘Bees’ Bliss’. I am also looking forward to outings in the mountains.

As always, thank all of you for caring about native plants and for caring about our environment. ~Susan Libonati-Barnes, President
