Dear Members:
Ballots for the election of officers for Shasta Chapter CNPS will go out to members shortly (see article, A Bit of Business, Updated), and our next President will take the reins on April 1, 2023. I am looking forward to their new ideas and approaches in the following year, and thank all Board members for being willing to serve. I will still be a member of the Board as immediate Past President, and will remain part of the group that is managing plant propagation.

Don’t miss our first post-pandemic membership meeting on March 16, 2023. Member-at-Large Chris McCarron will speak on Whiskeytown: A Gold Mine of Botanical Treasures. This will be a virtual presentation; attendees must register. (Please see the article, March 2023 Membership Meeting, for details and to register.)

Our Spring 2023 Native Plant Sale is in early April: members-only pre-sale on April 6; public sale on April 7 and 8. A plant propagation event to prep for the sale is planned for end of March: we will demonstrate basic plant propagation techniques and prepare our plants for the sale. Please see Pre Plant Sale Propagation Event for details!

The snow storms touched Cottonwood lightly, watering the blooming manzanita. A few venturesome hummingbirds have been sipping from the non-native rosemary, and harvesting nest fluff from the asters. I am lolling in the sunshine as I write. I am looking forward to early wildflowers, especially in vernal pool areas.
Best wishes,
~Susan Libonati-Barnes, President
