President’s Message
June 2025

As spring flowers fade away, I like to deadhead and cut back my poppies. I also give them a big drink of water so they will put out another flush of beautiful flowers for my viewing pleasure! Poppies are so cool like that! I also take time to collect seeds from the various natives that I encounter in my yard as they mature, and squirrel them away to broadcast in the fall!

As we head into the heat of summer, it takes a careful eye to monitor the soil moisture on the plants you purchased at the spring plant sale—they do need some watering to get established this first year through the hot summer months ahead!

Don’t forget that Father’s Day is this month! If your dad is anything like me, he will appreciate a bouquet of nice flowers and a six-pack of his favorite cold snack!

We are currently looking for volunteers for all aspects of our Chapter activities. We are seeking officers, board members, social media & communications people, and plant propagation volunteers too!  If you or anyone you know wants to participate, please contact us at shastacnps@gmail.com

As we begin our summer break for the Chapter—the next in-person meeting will be in September—it is time to thank our members, board, and scholarship winner with a get-together of sorts. The Chapter is hosting a semi-potluck gathering on Saturday, June 21, at Horsetown-Clear Creek Preserve from 10 AM to noon. We will provide the main fixings for sandwiches; you can provide a side of your choice (salads, chips, dips, etc.) We will have ice water available, but feel free to bring your own beverage of choice. Please RSVP to the Chapter’s email address at shastacnps@gmail.com. It will be a fun day with friends, and we can all share ideas on how we can continue to increase membership and participation for the upcoming fall events! Thank you so much! ~Jeremey Kelley, President
