Communications Committee

Shasta Chapter CNPS wants to form a Communications Committee, and we need your help!

This is a fabulous opportunity for you to become more active in your local Chapter. As a member of the Communications Committee, you can choose to do as little or as much as fits your situation and interests. All work is done remotely, and all committee-member volunteers will be provided with any training that might be needed. Please join us!

Here is a list of tasks that will fall under Communications:

  • Blog maintenance (shasta-cnps.org)
    • Posting articles. This includes:
      • Requesting and editing text for articles.
      • Requesting and processing photos to illustrate articles.
      • Publishing articles.
    • Updating the two calendar pages.
  • Website maintenance (https://chapters.cnps.org/shasta/)
    • If we ever get a webmaster, this task will move to them. Currently, we try (and normally fail) to keep the homepage, the officers page, and the Get Out! index up to date.
  • Facebook updating (https://www.facebook.com/shastachaptercnps)
    • Posting blog articles (and/or pages) as they are published.
    • Creating event posts for Shasta Chapter CNPS activities, such as field trips and meetings.
    • Sharing posts of relevant news from sister orgs.
    • Liking, replying, and/or commenting on anything posted by the general public.
  • Email (shastacnps@gmail.com)
    • Sending mass emails as needed, usually by request from a Board member.
    • Fielding requests and announcements that come into our inbox.
    • Maintaining email address books via communication with the Membership Chair.
    • Creating monthly eblasts using Constant Contact.

Currently, all of the above tasks are taken care of by one person. While each task is a lot of fun on its own, it is far too much for a single volunteer to do all of them month after month. Nor is it wise for the Chapter to rely on the know-how of one single volunteer to accomplish all these monthly tasks.

Communication with the membership is absolutely vital to the health of our Chapter. Even if you are only interested in one small aspect of the above bulleted points, you will contribute significantly to the Chapter’s well-being when you take it on.
