The prevailing zeitgeist got you down? Resist with Flower Power! Surrounding our homes with Nature’s ingenuity can transport our troubled minds to a completely beatific and wholesome place. Plant now and be rewarded as your plants establish with ease, grow, and flower precociously, and bring surprising pollinators (and peace and calm) to your own personal realm.
In the spirit of resistance, we have opened our online store! The Winter 2025 Native Plant Sale will continue to be open for business through 2 PM on March 27. The rainy, cool season in California is when native vegetation regenerates. Native plants that go dormant in the dry season tend to re-emerge from their rootstocks or push new growth in what we think of as winter. This time of year is friendly to germination and young plants. Take advantage and plant now to bring more success in your native garden.

Natives such as members of the stonecrop family (we offer three species in our store), freshen up when the rains arrive and, by February, they are developing flower stalks that will bloom in April. Native iris also stay green over winter and are ready to bloom in April.

Lomatium species are another example of drought-dormant perennials that re-emerge from their rootstocks in late January. These plants complete their life cycle by late July, at which time they can be trimmed very short for fire safety for the remainder of summer, similar to a host of native bulbs.
