We are excitedly getting ready to temporarily move all of our plants and tables out of the growing area at Shasta College, which is scheduled to be upgraded and expanded.  We will be looking for volunteers to help with the move when the day comes!

Plant Propagation Dates

January and February propagation session dates are all on Sundays: January 5 and 19, and February 2 and 16.  Please see the calendar for details, or text/call Margaret Widdowson at 916/752-0941, or e-mail ShastaCNPSPropagation@gmail.com for further information

An Abundance of Seeds

We had a busy fall season setting cuttings and sowing seeds in preparation for the upcoming Spring 2020 Plant Sale.  Our volunteers brought us a great variety of seeds this fall, including spicebush, California hibiscus, mountain mint, leopard lily, black sage, and St. Catherine’s lace buckwheat.  We cleaned and sorted the seeds to remove plant parts and any damaged seeds.  Some were sown immediately and some are still stratifying in the fridge.  Stratification is a common method to break seed dormancy: seeds are placed in plastic bags with damp sand or perlite for two weeks to three months before sowing in the spring.
