Hi, CNPS folks~
I’m Kathy Urlie and have gone on a couple of your joint outings with the Shasta Environmental Alliance. My group from Shasta YMCA took a hike on Waters Gulch Trail, led by retired USFS forest researcher Carl Skinner, just last Thursday. Although David Ledger and a couple others were on the trail about a month ago, my purpose in reaching out to the Shasta Chapter CNPS now is to let you all know that Shasta snow-wreath is currently blooming!

I’m not that knowledgeable about plant species, but found the outing amazingly beautiful with many flowering plants, including Lemmon’s ceanothus, mariposa-lily, California snowdrop bush, shooting-star, lupine, and much more. Although seeing the living fossil Shasta snow-wreath blooming was the trek impetus, there was such an abundance of other plants blooming that it was quite spectacular! So, this is just a few words of encouragement to visit Waters Gulch now, if at possible.

Here’s a quick slideshow of photos I took of just a few of the bloomers we saw. Best viewing wishes! ~Kathy Urlie
