In lieu of hosting a speaker for the March Chapter meeting, we’ll do something a little different! Please join us for a tour of the Shasta Chapter’s nursery, at 6 PM on Thursday, March 19. We’ll meet at the Shasta College Farm horticulture greenhouses—11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding—where our Chapter grows stock of many native species. Come as early as 5:30 PM  to socialize!

Volunteer Nursery Manager MaryAnn McCrary will show us the facilities, the species that will be sold at our Spring 2026 Native Plant Sale, and some younger plants that will be held over for our fall sale.   She’ll field your questions, share horticultural anecdotes, and introduce you to species that are new to our inventory.  In addition, you will be provided with the list of species that will be sold at the 2026 spring sale.  And for those who want to try nurturing some seedlings to become full-size plants, there will be some samples of seeds and seedlings you can take home.

MaryAnn is retired from working as a Mitigation Lands Coordinator for Caltrans, where she managed wetland and riparian mitigation projects in Lassen, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Trinity, and Tehama counties for 15 years.  Before that, she was the botanist for the Department of Fish and Wildlife San Joaquin Valley, Central and Southern Sierra Region for 5 years.  Now she enjoys working to continue the Shasta Chapter CNPS native plant nursery, which supports student scholarships and provides hands-on experience for Shasta College students and Shasta Chapter CNPS volunteers. ~Shasta Chapter CNPS
