On Saturday, December 18, 2021, Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA) volunteers planted nine basins of blue oaks (Quercus douglasii) and five basins of valley oaks (Quercus lobata). Each basin contained five to eight BMP-cleaned acorns. The soil teemed with earthworms (suborder Lumbricina), which indicates that the soil contained an envious quantity of organic matter. We were the only souls around except for a couple walking their two dogs and two loud dirt-bike riders. Let us replace the dirt-bike riders with nature walkers! ~Doug Mandel
