Important Notice: California Native Plant Society now requires all field trip participants to sign an annual waiver of liability. This can be done online at WaiverSign. Once signed, you will be covered for all Shasta Chapter CNPS events in 2023. Thank you!

Please join us for the following field trips! Two will be co-hosted by Shasta Chapter CNPS and Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA), and one will be co-hosted by Shasta Chapter CNPS and Western Shasta Resource Conservation District (WSRCD).

North-side Sacramento River Trail Wildflower & Native Plant ID Walk
Thursday, May 4, 8 AM

  • This wildflower walk on the northern section of the Sacramento River Trail, co-hosted by Shasta Environmental Alliance and Shasta Chapter CNPS, is a chance for you to learn about the many plants seen along the River Trail and a little about their natural history. A plant list will be given to all participants to help them identify the plants later. This will be an easy walk of about 2 miles with one hill, lasting ~2 hours. Meet at the end of Harlan Drive, Redding, at 8 AM. Dogs welcome if kept on leash. Rain will cancel if heavy; bring an umbrella for light rain. For more information, please contact David Ledger at david@ecoshasta.org.

Vernal Pool Plants at Shastina Ranch
Monday, May 15, 9 AM

  • Western Shasta Resource Conservation District is inviting Shasta Chapter CNPS members to join them in some biological monitoring at two great vernal pools on their conservation easement, located near the Shastina Ranch subdivision, which also includes a section of Clover Creek. With all of the water and all of the great flowers this year, it should be spectacular! Bring your botanical knowledge (great or small!) to assist in identifying plants and building upon their plant list. We expect to be done by noon. Meet at the new bridge on Shasta View Drive that was recently built over Clover Creek in the Shastina Ranch subdivision (close to Airport Road; not far west of the intersection of Shasta View Drive and Bolam Creek Road). Although there is no parking on Shasta View Drive itself, there is a small side street very near the bridge for parking directly next to the open space area where no houses have yet been built. (I will be there early to direct folks where to park.) No dogs, please. Moderate to heavy rain will cancel; bring an umbrella for light rain. For more information, please contact Jeremey Kelley at jkelley@westernshastarcd.org.

South-side Sacramento River Trail Wildflower & Native Plant ID Walk
Thursday, May 25, 8 AM

  • This wildflower walk on the southern section of the Sacramento River Trail, co-hosted by Shasta Environmental Alliance and Shasta Chapter CNPS, is a chance for you to learn about the many plants seen along the River Trail and a little about their natural history. A plant list will be given to all participants to help them identify the plants later. This will be an easy walk of about 2½ miles on a paved trail, lasting ~2 hours. Meet at the Diestelhorst Bridge parking lot, Redding, at 8 AM. Dogs welcome if kept on leash. Rain will cancel if heavy; bring an umbrella for light rain. For more information, please contact David Ledger at david@ecoshasta.org.
