- Shasta Environmental Alliance’s waiver can be signed here: Meetup.
Please join us for the following field trips, co-hosted by Shasta Chapter CNPS and Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA).
Cold Boiling Lake and Flowing Meadows
Monday, July 8, 8 AM
- To escape the heat of the valley, we will head up to much cooler weather in Lassen Volcanic National Park for this wildflower walk. Temperatures will be 30 degrees or more cooler than Redding. It’s an easy to moderate four-mile hike with little elevation gain (the only hard part is the altitude) that will start in the Kings Creek Picnic area and go 1.4 miles to Cold Boiling Lake. From there, we will walk another half mile up the wildflower-filled, beautiful flowing meadows on the trail that continues up to Bumpass Hell from the east. Trees on much of the trail have burned, but this leaves more room for wildflowers. Wear boots and bring a hat, water, sunscreen, and lunch. Dogs are not allowed in the Park. We will meet at the Mt. Shasta Mall parking lot near Chase Bank at 8 AM and carpool/caravan to Lassen.
Echo Lake
Saturday, July 13, 8 AM
- This is a 4- to 4.5-mile out-and-back hike to Echo Lake, Lassen Volcanic National Park. The trail starts at Summit Lake and ascends for less than 600 feet through heavy forest with some open areas to Echo Lake. It’s a moderately difficult hike that does require good balance. This field trip will primarily be a social hike, but we will discuss how to identify the various conifers on the trail. Wear boots and bring a hat, water, sunscreen, and lunch. Dogs are not allowed in the Park. We will meet at the Mt. Shasta Mall parking lot near Chase Bank at 8 AM and carpool/caravan to Lassen.
Please sign up for each field trip on SEA’s Meetup.com page, and make sure you have signed both waivers for 2024 (see opening paragraph). For more information about any of the above field trips, please contact me at david@ecoshasta.org. ~David Ledger
