Redding Tree Committee Update

The Redding Tree Committee had a meeting on Monday, February 27, at which four speakers presented their views on a new tree ordinance. Those who spoke included Tim McLean, with SDS Development; Rocky Slaughter, representing K2 Development Company, which is developing mixed commercial and residential buildings in downtown Redding; Kent Manuel, a retired planner who worked for the Redding Planning Department for about 30 years; and David Ledger, representing Shasta Environmental Alliance and the environmental community. These presentations gave the committee a variety of views on a new tree ordinance.

During the 3-minute public participation period at the end of the meeting, local arborist and Shasta Environmental Alliance member Rico Montenegro advocated for the trees. Those who care about Redding’s tree canopy are encouraged to attend future meetings and stand up for our trees.

The next meeting will be Monday, March 20, 2023, at 5:30 PM. The committee will start going over the ordinance section by section at this meeting.
