The Shasta Chapter Scholarship Committee has been soliciting and evaluating scholarship applicants for our annual $2,000 award to a deserving high school or junior college graduate heading on to a four-year university. This year, we received 12 applications, all from high school seniors, and our six-member committee was unanimous in its decision.
The Shasta Chapter is delighted to announce that the scholarship was awarded to Ceiba Lily Cummings, a Yreka High School senior, graduating with a 3.98 GPA (4.12 weighted). She is well-traveled, self-motivated, independent, passionate about natural resources, and has a broad range of interests, from student government to athletics to poetry. And both her first and middle names are plant genera(!)—how could we possibly turn her down?
Ceiba plans to attend Oregon State University, majoring in environmental engineering. We are honored to play a small part in helping her to achieve her educational goals, and are certain that she will continue to be a strong proponent for our native plants and natural ecosystems.
The Shasta Chapter wishes Ceiba all the best in her future endeavors!
