Please join us for the following field trip, which will be co-hosted by Shasta Chapter CNPS and Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA).
Paradise Meadows, Lassen Volcanic National Park
Saturday, August 5, 8 AM
- This field trip to beautiful Paradise Meadows will be a three-mile hike of moderate difficulty, starting at 6400 feet in elevation. We’ll hike to the meadows for lunch, but then continue on up the trail afterwards for ~0.5 mile to observe the changing plant life as we move from rich damp organic soil to dryer volcanic ash. The total hike will be about four miles, with an elevation gain of 1000 feet. There will still be wildflowers in bloom, but it is past the peak blooming period. We will focus on identifying and learning all the conifers and shrubs on the trail—7 trees and 10 shrubs—plus a few wildflowers. Meet at the Mt. Shasta Mall parking lot near Chase Bank at 8 AM to carpool to the trailhead.
Keep an eye on the calendar for field trip updates—we may add another later in the month! ~David Ledger
