We had seven volunteers show up to our July 30, 2022, Matson-Mowder-Howe Celebration Garden maintenance session, representing three local organizations: Shasta Chapter CNPS, Shasta Master Gardeners, and North Valley Art League.
Our small but dedicated group of volunteers spent a pleasant Saturday morning sprucing up the Garden. The humidity was up and the spiders were lively and doing their thing. John Springer noticed a large garden spider web had just entrapped a huge ten-lined June beetle, and the garden spider was busy proceeding with the cycle of life.
Since the native plants showed good resilience to the summer heat, most of our work centered around the ornamental non-native plants. The most important part of the native plant garden maintenance calendar will begin once the heat eases up at the end of summer and beginning of fall. ~Doug Mandel
